Why choose Sherwin Currid for your accountancy?
When choosing an accountant, it’s important to find one that understands your needs and offers support specifically for you. Sherwin Currid does exactly that. We provide expert accountancy services tailored to meet your specific needs.
All of our clients have their own dedicated accountant who will guide you through setting up and running a business. With us, you can rest assured that your accountancy is being taken care of by someone you know and who understands your business. Upon joining, you will be offered an on boarding call where your accountant will introduce themselves and take the time to understand your specific situation and needs. We talk to our clients via a video call through Teams/Zoom, over the phone, by email or even in person at our local offices.
We utilise cloud accounting software, meaning you can upload receipts, raise invoices and manage finances on the go. With cloud accounting, you can keep accurate records that are shared in real time with your accountant, all from your phone or computer. This means that your accounts, VAT, payroll, and cash flow are all prepared from the latest information. Cloud accounting also means your accountant can collaborate with you in real-time and give you up-to-date tax advice and suggestions whenever you want.
Your own dedicated accountant
One of the ways that we stand out is our level of customer service. Since we set up as an ACCA practice over 15 years ago, we have prided ourselves on offering a friendly, expert service. Unlike other accountancy firms, where you are moved around departments, with Sherwin Currid, you will have one key contact who will take care of you. We offer unlimited advice and access to your accountant for any queries you may have. With us, you can gain peace of mind that your deadlines will be met well in advance and you are operating tax efficiently.
Your accountant will keep you up to date on any changes that may affect you. If you are a contractor, your dedicated accountant will offer advice on IR35 and setting your PSC up tax efficiently. For small businesses, we provide management accounts compiled by your accountant with advice and constructive feedback so you can see how your business is doing. Your expert, dedicated accountant will help you succeed regardless of your business.
Limited company accountants
At Sherwin Currid we offer a range of services for limited companies and their directors. We can set up a new company if you are just starting out, guiding you through the process with Companies House. If you are contemplating closing down we can also assist you. For directors who already have an established limited company we are able to begin working for you, seeking records from your old accountants, whenever suits you.
Part of our services includes ensuring you meet all filing deadlines. Your dedicated accountant will handle the preparation and submission of your annual accounts. We will also compute your corporation tax, looking for ways to minimise your tax liability while remaining compliant.
Company formations
Forming a company is an exciting step for business owners and contractors. A limited company offers many benefits such as limited liability, potential tax savings, access to more finance, and scalability that are not available to sole traders. You can ensure a hassle-free incorporation process by trusting Sherwin Currid with your company formation. We will handle the paperwork for filing with Companies House, freeing up your time to focus on other aspects of your business. Our accountants can also provide advice on efficient share structures for you and your directors. We will help you register for PAYE and VAT, should you need it, liaising with HMRC and Companies House to enable you to hit the ground running.
Once we have formed your company, we can help you with meeting your filing requirements from day one. Our bookkeeping services can ensure you keep track of your limited company finances. Our range of small business accounting services can help directors, both new and experienced, to run a company and grow your brand. We offer management accounts, enabling you to gain an overview of your company’s growth and financial health as you navigate starting out in your specific industry. We also will help you with utilising cloud accounting software to track your cash flow and more.
Limited company closedowns
If you are thinking of winding up your company we have you covered. Our team of accountants can advise you on the tax implications of winding up a company and offer guidance on the disposal of your business’s assets. There are various implications that come with closing a limited company, including final submissions for annual accounts, VAT and PAYE. We will guide you through your obligations with respect to each of these, ensuring compliance with HMRC and Companies House.
There are various alternatives to closing a limited company for good. For instance, contractors may wish to keep their company available to them for future roles, in which case we can provide dormant company services. We can also help with transferring your limited company trading to a sole trader or partnership arrangement, providing an alternative structure for you to continue trading through. If you are considering closing down then get in touch with us to determine the best course of action for you.
Annual accounts
Limited liability companies in the UK are legally obliged to file accounts annually with Companies House following the conclusion of a company’s financial year. The type of accounts that you must submit will vary depending on the turnover, size of the balance sheet, and number of employees working for the business. The full version of your annual accounts can be invaluable to a director, helping to assess the viability and performance of your company. Your corporation tax liability is also calculated from these accounts.
We prepare and submit your company’s annual accounts well in advance of any deadlines. This is to ensure ample time for you to raise any queries, investigate any unexpected discrepancies and prepare for your tax bill. Your dedicated accountant will be on hand to assist you with interpreting your accounts. We take care of the submission and filing of the accounts to Companies House, well in advance of your deadlines.
Corporation tax
If you are a limited company director, then you will be well aware that you must pay corporation tax on your company’s profits each year. We are ideally suited to calculating your liability, maximising deductions and ensuring accurate filings. We can help you register for corporation tax as well, giving you peace of mind that you are compliant with HMRC.
Your dedicated accountant will work with you throughout the year to ensure you are taking advantage of allowable expenses and payroll. We stay abreast of changes to legislation and tax rates, ensuring compliance and guidance through changes, ensuring you remain compliant.
Confirmation statement filing
Another annual responsibility for limited company directors is the annual confirmation statement to Companies House. We can take your confirmation statement filing off your plate, freeing you of stress. We will make notes of any changes to share structures, director details, PSCs and more to ensure Companies House is up to date and your company is following the rules, avoiding fines.
Bookkeeping
Keeping track of all your incoming and outgoings can seem daunting, especially if your business involves a lot of costs. At Sherwin Currid, we offer a range of bookkeeping software as well as the expertise of our in-house bookkeepers to ensure your records are up to date and accurate. We use the latest software to ensure your records are up to date and available at all times. With Sherwin Currid managing your bookkeeping you can rest assured that your business’s finances are in good hands.
Some of the software we use is mentioned below. If you do not wish to use cloud accounting software then we also offer bookkeeping services where one of our bookkeeping team will take time monthly to manage your records and update them with all of your income and outgoings.
Cloud accounting software
Cloud accounting software is the future of bookkeeping and has revolutionised the way businesses and individuals can track finances. With cloud accounting software you can upload expenses on the go, raise and send invoices and remain compliant with HMRC’s Making Tax Digital. We work with a variety of software providers including the popular choices: FreeAgent, Xero and QuickBooks.
By using cloud accounting software, you and your accountant can collaborate in real-time, resulting in accurate filings and up-to-date insights into your business’s financial health. Many cloud accounting options have a mobile app that you can use to upload receipts and invoices on the go, eliminating the need for keeping physical copies.
With Sherwin Currid your dedicated accountant will discuss with you the best software for your specific situation. Once you are set up by us, your accountant will guide you through using your software, remaining on hand to answer any queries you may have.
VAT
If your business’s turnover is greater than £90,000 in a 12-month period, then you are obliged to register for VAT. When registered, you will have to complete and submit quarterly VAT returns through HMRC’s Making Tax Digital. Sherwin Currid can help you with registering, managing and submitting your VAT returns. Our team of accountants will complete your returns quarterly, ensuring you claim input VAT on allowable expenses and that you pay the right amount to HMRC.
We use cloud accounting software so you can upload expenses on the go and raise VAT invoices for your clients and customers. Our team can view your data in real time and answer any questions you may have regarding VAT. Furthermore, we will monitor your turnover and advise you on when to register for VAT. We will register you and complete all the necessary submissions to get you started as well as providing support and advice on operating a VAT registered business.
MTD for VAT
MTD for VAT (Making Tax Digital for VAT) is a digital initiative introduced by HMRC to simplify and streamline the way businesses submit their VAT returns. Under MTD for VAT, businesses are required to keep digital records and use compatible software to submit their VAT returns. This initiative aims to make the VAT process more efficient, accurate, and secure.
We work with software providers that offer MTD-compliant software such as Xero, FreeAgent and QuickBooks. With Sherwin Currid you don’t have to worry about submitting your VAT returns as we take care of the whole process, ensuring that you remain compliant.
R&D tax credits
If your company is undertaking research and development into new ideas, then you may be eligible to claim tax credits. These can lower your corporation tax liability if you are profit-making or even provide a payment from the government if you are loss-making. We can help you handle your claim, ensuring you compile the necessary information to submit to HMRC. We have accountants who are specialists in SME R&D tax credits who will be able to talk you through qualifying expenditures and ensure that you keep the right records.
CIS returns and management
The Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) is an HMRC scheme that aims to minimise tax evasion in the UK construction industry. CIS construction work covers any construction work to a permanent or temporary building or structure, as well as civil engineering structures such as roads and bridges. We have specialist accountants that are able to help you with CIS by managing the deductions on subcontractor payments as well as advising you on any payments due to HMRC. Furthermore, your dedicated CIS accountant will be on hand to answer any queries you may have to give you peace of mind.
