A headline from the 2015 summer budget was the scrapping of class 2 NIC to be implemented in April 2018. This was later delayed until April 2019.

Now the Government has announced that it will not be scrapping class 2 NIC’s in this parliament.

This Government seems to be increasingly confused with its NIC policy. Class 4 NIC contributions were first increased, then after much negative commentary in the press, the Government felt forced into an embarrassing immediate U turn.

Class 2 NIC is considered by most experts to be a regressive and outdated tax which should be removed or reformed.
